THE SUNDAY OREGON! AX, PORTLAND, JULY 4, 1909. 3 OREGON MILLS WIN Get Big Lumber Contract From Pullman Company. SALE AMOUNTS TO $190,000 Material Just I'urchuscd Will Be Manufactured Into Equipment for Uso on llarriman Linen. Several Jlldriers Successful. Contracts have Just been closed by .the Pullman Company tor 14,000,000 '.tfret of lumber for the construction of new equipment for the Harrlman lines. lln the purchase of this material. 90 rrer cent of which will be furnished by the Oregon mills, approximately $210,- v"v win ne (iiKburswl. Of that amount n bon t sinnnon win A th. i,,mK 'manufacturers of this state. I When proposals were asked for this Jfarge quantity of lumber, representa tives of the llarriman system requested that Oregon bidders be favored, condi tions being equal. It develops that the T successful bidders for 90 per cent of 'the material own lumber mills on the Jlines of either the O. It. &. N., -the South ern 1-a.oiric or the Astoria & Columbia In this state. Their bids 'range from 100,000 ftet to 1,500.000 feet each and include manufacturers from Cottage lirove, on the .Southern Pacific, to Astoria on the Astoria & Columbia. The remaining ten per cent of the I order, aggregating less than 2.000.000 (feet, will be furnished by mills at Win Mock, Vancouver and Raymond, Wash. It Is explained by local representa- i Vllves of the Pullman Company that the wmtlre order would have been placed In jthla slate but for the fact that some :of the bidders were unable to furnish the Quality of lumber asked for within fthe time prescribed in the specifica tions under which the bids were asked. CAPITOL HILL Inside property on the West Side in Portland proper, 5-cent carfare, 12 min utes' ride from the business center of the city on the Oregon Electric Ratl-w-ay; depot on the ground: improved streets and sidewalks. We are now preparing to supply with our own water system for immediate use all people desiring to build, although with in a short time city water will be ex tended to Capitol Hill, as we are now entitled to it from the fact that a large portion of Capitol Hill is inside the city limits. Streets, sidewalks and water mains are paid for by ourselves, not bonded and charged up against the lots, simply we have paid for them. These improvements -are not nromised In the future, the work is now being i none. ' io out and see for vourselves. Every lot is 50x100 feet or larger, all cleared, high and sightly; fine soil, no stone or gravel, and the price from $-'00 to $400 each with easy terms. Where can you beat this in the United States, considering its close proximity to the business center of a citv the size of Portland? It is simply offering a premium to people to buy these lots at these prices, and If we did not have so many of them we would build a high board fence around Capitol Hill and go fishing for one year and come back and sell these beautiful lots for three times the price we are now asking. Capitol Hill is the largest tract on the West Side, and the Oregon Electric Railway runs through the center of Capitol Hill for more than one-half mile; 40 trains a day stopping at' Cap itol Hill, and the finest wagon and automobile road from the city leading right Into our streets.
