National Banks of the Metropolis Show the Largest Increase In De posits lit Their History. NEW YORK, Jan. 16. Th Financier will ay: Th statement of the Associated Banks of the City of New York, for the week end ing January 16. showed a continuance of the very heavy Increases and decreases which have been a feature of the reports for some time past. Taking the actual con dition of the banks on Saturday as a ba sis, loans were expanded $27,659,900, the cash Increase was $10,356,400, while the de posits rose $37,220,600. The large increase In deposits, of course, swelled the amount of reserve requirement, but despite this fact, the reserve on all deposits Increased $1,049,950, standing at the end of the week at $27,361,400. The banks gained for the week ending Saturday fully $7,000,000 from the interior and nearly $6,000,000 in operations with the Sub-treasury, but the gold exports of about $6,000,000 decreased the full measure of the flow of currency into th New York Institutions. The statement was complicated through operations of the banks and trust companies, the summary of tha latter showing a de crease of $14,000,000 in deposits of the week, while loans were decreased $17,972, 600. The state bank and trust companies not reporting to the clearing-house gained approximately $1,500,000 in their cash hold ings it la worth noting that the deposits of the Government in New York banks now amount to lea than 87,000.000, showing a decrease of about 82.000,000 during the week.' traceable to the fact that the banks are anticipating tha recall by the Treasury of $25,000,000 In publlo fund cow deposited with banka Money Is flowing freely to thl center from the Interior. Even gold exports are not suf ficient to counteract the gain which New York banks are making from this movement. The statement of averages of the clearing-house bank for the week shows tbat the bank hold $28,688,175 more than the requirement for the 2o per cent ' reserve rule. This i aa Increase of $2,805.25 tn the pro portionate cash reserve as compared with last week. The statement follows: Increase. Loans 81.829.110. 600 842.o74,l0 Deposits .......... The percentage of actual reserve of the clearing-house bank today wa 27.06. The statement of banks and trust companies of Greater New . York, not reporting to the clearing-house, shows that the.e Institutions have aggregate deposits of $1,148,949,000: total cash on hand. 8112.776,400 and loans amounting to (1,036.530,300. The Increase of 846,109.400 in deposit In the National bank this week wa the larg est ever recorded la the history of th clearing-house. A CHAXCE TO MAKE MONEY. I rend a recent article about a wo man who Invested $620 In improving a Mexican homestead and is now getting a regular Income of over $1200 a year from the saie of bananas from her or chard. I am glad to say that I know this can be done. You can get a homestead in Mexico, free, end do not have to live on it. All that Is required is to have 1000 banana trees planted within five vears, and the Improve ment Department will prepare the land, supply and plant the trees and care for them until they come into bearing, for about $600. You can pay this in Installments of $5 a month, and In three vears after your trees are planted thev will bring you a profit of more than $1500 each year if you su perintend the work; but if you wish tho Improvement Department will care for the trees and market your bananas sc. vnu will not nave to De in .uemu at all: they get one-third of the crop for attending to ana marKet-infr me ha n n nno This will give vou a profit of more than $1000 a year from an invest ment nf nhnilt SHOO. II VOU act as your own superintendent you can make $300 year more, x Know mis irum my uwn experience. It Is a delightful country, never hot, never cold, and the health cnrirminns are nerfect.
