Glee Clubs at ileilig Wednesday.
Next Wednesday evening. December 16,
the University of Oregon Glee and Man
dolin clubs will be heard In their annual
"College evening" concert and "stunts"
I at the Heillg Theater. Fourteenth and
Washington streets. With the coming
of the combined cluhs local people will
once again have an opportunity of wit
nessing an entertainment out of the
; ordinary, something full of spirit and
vigor.
There Is no class of people on earth
. that carries a more distinctive air. that
the American public. It also discloses a
spectacular production of such magnifi
cent and massive proportions as to Justify
the assurance that this presentation Is
the most stupendous, ambitious and
crowning achievement In the career of
Mr. James.

this play Miss Stahl has scored one of the
greatest hits credited to an American act
ress In recent years and she comes to this
city with a year s run in New York and
four months' engagement at the Powers
Theater, Chicago, to her credit. The
Forbes' play is a four-act comedy and,
contrarv to the title. It has no musical
accompaniment. The engagement wlil be
for four performances.

has a more typical bearing than tha
college Btudent. and- there is a partic
ular charm about his actions, wliether
on or off tho stage, which make him
more than ordinarily interesting to watch.
The Oregon clubs are composed of
; typical students from a typical college,
and people who want a glimpse of real
college life will not be disappointed in
Ihe men who represent the State Univer
sity. On the other hand, those who
i love music for its own sake will find the
concert all that can be desired. Pro
cessor Glen is recognized as a musical
director throughout the country, and he
i has had more talent and trained voices
' with which to work this year than In
any previous season of the clubs.
The stunts this year, too. are more
than usually creditable. Mr. Voight's
dialect monologues, one humorous and
:the other pathetic, are of such a quality
'that they would do credit to any pro
fessional Impersonator. Van Dusen fur
nishes the most laughable element. H
ls a genuine comedian and never falls to
stnke a responsive chord of merriment.
Besides these leading stunts. Ogden and
Gcisler have a piano stunt, which Is a
take-off on the piano fiends; the convict
quartet appears in a song and dance,
and there are several comic songs by
:the whole club.
The mandolin selections, three in num
iber. round out a well-balanced and thor
oughly enjoyable programme.
Christinas Attraction at Heilig.
The presentation of "Peer Gynt." as of
fered by Louis James at the Heilig The-
ater for three nights, commencing Thurs
day. December 34. Is a theatrical epoch
making event, for it not only serves to
'introduce the most fantastic and widely
discussed comedy ever written, but it
affords this distinguished player a great
er opporturiUy to reveal his wonderful
versatility than anything he: has here
tofore had the honor of submitting to
decided to accede to their wishes, believ
ing also that the change would please
everyone. "Zaxa" will follow a little
later. There is something about "A Mid
night Bell" that is especially" adapted for
the holiday season. It is a rural comedy
of New England, but "stands In a class
all by itself.
"Arizona" Coming to the Baker.
The Christmas week attraction at the
Baker, starting next Sunday matinee. De
cember 3. will be the noted "Arizona,!
so well known to every theater-goer. It
will be played by a strong acting com
pany and the scenic effects are unusually
picturesque. The artists have painted a
series of scenes which they own to have
copied from nature and man's handiwork
as It exists in the Aravalpa Valley, in the
pioturesque southwestern territory.
HI Henry's Minstrels Coming.
The attraction at the Star Theater next
week will be Hi Henry's Big Minstrels.
The singing force of this organization
Is said to be superior to that of any
other minstrels. Hi Henry and his su
perb military band, the star saxophone
quartet and the big double orchestra are
strong features. A brand new palatial
first part of dazzling beauty, said to
be the finest on the minstrel stage, is
presented.
