(lREOOM APPLE IK NW ToRK. Hood
Kiver apples on display In New York may
not be a matter of surprise to the people
of Oregon, who have come to know that
fruit grown In this state U capable of
attracting favorable attention wherever
shown, but it is a fair guess to make that
tha recent exhibition In the metropolis
of Hood River apples will surprise resi
dents of that part of the country be
cause of the fact that Oregon produces so
much superior fruit to that grown tn
other parts of the country. Stelnhardt &
Kelly, of New York, the firm that con
tracted with the applegrowers' union of
lond River for nearly the entire product
f the season, advertises In the Eastern
papers an exhibition of about 60 varie
ties of apples In their place of business,
ail of which came from Oregon. They
pay in th advertisement that the exhibit
Is th most wonderful and unique ever
held In the East, and Is of the finest ap
ples grown In the world.
More November Berries. Strawber
ries and raspberries perfect in form and
color and possessing even finer flavor
than those gathered during the regular
season, have been obtained by C. D.
Ftrir.ger. of Woodstock, during the past
ix weeks. After the first crop of straw
berries had been harvested the plants
were cut back to tho roots. The leaves
grew out again and later the plants bore
a crop of berries almost aa large as the
first yield. The raspberries were grown
from a few bushes that were not pruned
at the close of the last season. Mr.
Stringer believes If ho had deferred the
trimming until the late frosts the bushes
would have continued to bear heavily.
