Lies just east of these holdings of Swift &
Company; is closer to downtown; is almost
as close to the packing plant; is far enough
away from the latter to avoid the discomfort
of proximity; is most magnificently located
property on the peninsula; is a splendid in
vestment; is a fine place to live; is in midst
of a commercial turmoil on the peninsula
that is fairly turning realty values head over
heels; read the Telegram clipping herewith;
it tells of the gigantic things that are being
done; greater ones coming; fortunes are in
the making here; big fortunes; the prestige
of an early selection is apparent.
The coming of Swift means a new era for Portland a new era
for the Peninsula. It is conservatively predicted that 30,000 people
will be added to the present population. Streetcar companies foresee
the great things and are building. Railroads are rushing to the
place. Speculators are securing options on every inch of ground.
The telephone companies are getting busy. Homes are springing up
like magic Not a hundred people in Portland have any fair con
ception of the magnitude of the Swift investment. Property that
was once sold for $500 to $1000 a lot along the Halsted-street side of
the Union Stockyards in Chicago now brings as much per foot. The
coming of such industries as Swift's did it. The lots near Swift's
plant that you can now buy for hundreds will be unobtainable for
thousands in five years. Such is the history of the locality that a
commercial Titan favors. Such is a forecast of Swinton, the lowest
priced, most opportune investment in the City of Portland in many
years. The man who fails to invest in such a reasonable, attractive
and certain proposition will shuffle off this mortal coil no further
advanced in this world's prosperity than he is now. Swinton is an
investment opportunity for people of quick perceptions, strong, op
timistic sentiment and splendid Judgment. That kind of a man
never overlooks a good thing. That's what Swinton is. Investigate
it this very day. The early selections will make the moBt money.
It's a case of act lively
SWINTON WILL HAVE
Graded streets,
City water.
Building restrictions,
Beautiful shade trees,
Columbia Boulevard crossing it,
Suburban service via the O. R. & N.
Advantage of high elevation and pure air,
Everything you could demand for a homesite.
Prices are lower than in adjoining property by many hundreds
of dollars in some cases. Terms are arranged to accommodate the
small' investor. Special inducements are offered to immediate
builders, cash purchasers, and 10 per cent discount will be allowed
to everybody who buys now, before the tract is opened for sale.
Improvement work is progressing rapidly, and this magnificent
section of the Love donation land claim is speedily changing from
an unimproved tract to a respectable residence district, with enor
mous investment possibilities.

mission that it was the purpose of the
management of the theater to present
the Juvenile opera company to the
Portland public in accordance with its
contract, and beginning next Sunday

formed the members of the commission
that any attempt on its part to prevent
the performances would be made the
basis for testing the cnua laoor law

At a regular meeting of the Fed-
erated Trades Council last night, the
members of the . Child Labor Commis

tion for the consideration of the cen
tral body of organized labor in this
city. After considerable discussion. It
was resolved by the Council to stand
by the Commission in its fight against
this and all other threatened violations
of the state law prohibiting the em
ployment of children in places of public
entertainment. It was not decided Just
what steps should be taken to treat
with the situation which has been put
up to the labor people by the Baker
management.
"We have decided to stand behind
the Child Labor Commission In its light
against the Baker Theater people, and
If It becomes necessary, wll carry the
case to the Supreme Court In order
finallly to test the constitutionality of
the act which we allege would be vio

Council last night. "In dealing with
the management of this theater In its
announced determination to violate the

in connection with the performance by
the company a separate violation of the
law. In the meantime, the Council ad
vises all friends of organized labor not
to patronize this resort."
