FIE GOWNS AT ASCOT
WELL - DRESSED AMERICAN
WOMEN' SEEN ON CTJ1 DAT.
Mrs. Potter Palmer Takes Fashion
able Party to Races Some of
the Costumes.
LONDON. July 18. (Special.) Much to
everybody's delight, the weather at Ascot
for Cup Day was really all that could be
desired, warm sunshine prevailing with
a cool breeze; but In spite of the unfa
vorable weather of the opening days, the
last week of the meeting maintained its
usual high standard of fashion, and pos
sibly more well-dressed Americans were
seen on the heath this year than on any
previous occasion. A prominent Ameri
can hostess was Mrs. Potter Palmer,
who took Klngswoodffor the racing days,
and entertained a large party, which In
cluded Mrs. Hwfa Williams. Miss Carter,
Mary Lady Gerard and Mrs. Egerton.
She looked remarkably well one after
noon In a pearl gray frock with a touch
of electric blue at her waist and a sweep
ing gray feather In her hat; and so did
Mrs. Bradley Martin, Just arrived from
Paris, and who was gowned all in black
pailleted silk gauze. Mrs. Antony Drexel
was entertaining at Burleigh Bushes, and
wore on the opening day a charming
frock of nattier blue silk gauze. Pretty
Miss Drexel. like so many of the other
young girls present, was gowned simply
In white muslin.
Cora. Lady Stafford wore gray one
day with a huge plumed hat, while on
another occasion she favored the popu
lar blue, with white lace sleeves and
white ostrich feathers In her big black
hat. Blue, of a rather darker shade,
was also favored by Mrs. Hunsiker, who,
with the Colonel, motored from town,
and having turned over their box to
friends, were in the Royal Enclosure.
Another well-dressed American woman
was Mrs. Ronalds, who, on Cup Day,
wore a dress of black crepe de chine,
with an accompanying coat of supple
satin, elaborately trimmed with blue and
green embroidery, and finished off by a
gargantuan hat.
With her was Mrs. Ritchie, all in white,
while her niece. Miss Ritchie, who came
with Lady Edward Spencer Churchill's
party, wore over her pretty muslin frock
an enveloping blue cloak.
KAISER SHOCKED AGAIN
Unconventional Crown Price Takes
Tramp for"Auto Ride.
BERLIN, July 18. (Special.) The un

curred the displeasure of his august
father, this time by giving a dirty look
ing tramp a ride in his own automobile.
Returning from a visit to his younger
brother, Prince Joachim, at Ploen, where
he has an estate, the Crown Prince, who
was driving his own automobile overtook
a ragged, dusty tramp who was trudging
along In the same direction. Stopping
his car, the future Kaiser' of Germany,
Invited the astonished tramp to Jump In.
The invitation was accepted with some
