MOTHER'S BLOODY MANIA

ENDS HER OWN LIFE.
Brooding Over Husband's Lack of
Employment, Slie Kills Him, Five
Children and Herself.
CADILLAC. Mirh.'. June 13. Mrs.
Daniel Cooper, sometime during last
night, shot and killed her husband, five
of her ix children and herself in their
home here. The sixth child was fatally
wounded. Mrs. Cooper 1 said to have
been subject to spells of dementia.
When Mrs. Kealey, Mrs. Cooper's
mother, went Into the Cooper home
this morning, she found the bodies of
her daughter and Mr. Cooper lying: on
the floor. A revolver lay beside Mrs.
Cooper. .Mrs. Kealey rushed into an
edjoinir.K room, and there found the
five children lying dead In a pool of
blood, with the sixth child badly
wounded close by.
In every instance the victims were
killed with a bullet through the head.

Some were In their beds and others
were on the floor. Mrs. Cooper lay across
the body of the baby on a bed with an
emptied revolver beside her. It to be
lieved Mrs. Cooper committed the mur
ders and then killed herself. She was
once confined in an asylum and for some
time has been brooding over the fact that
Cooper was out of work. A few days aga
she is reported to have said she would
"end it all."
Fred Cooper was still alive when found.
Just Defore he died he said:
"Mother did it. I think mother first
chloroformed the members of the fam
ily before shooting them."
' There were no sjns of a struggle in
any instance. Neither were there pow
der murks which indicated that she
stood some distance away In firing the
shots.
It developed the woman had been men
tally unsound since the birth of her
youngest child, Florence, IS months ago.
She was sane at .Intervals.
. .Mrs. Cooper last nisht took all her
children to a vaudeville performance.
She bargained Willi the girl ticket-seller
to admit the entire family for 60 cents.
The seller said she would do so. but that
it should not be considered as a prece
dent. "You will never need to again," replied
Mrs. Cooper, "because none of us will
ever come here after tonight."
She treated the children to candy and
peanuts and then marched up and down
the streets after the show, all In a
happy mood, Mrs. Coopc-r being cheer
ful They went home and the killing
evidently followed shortly afterward.

of the lne, the railroads favor Mon
treal over New York In fixing freight
rates.

The prewure remain high over the coast,
while a moderate depression overlies British
Columbia. Clear weather prevails this even
ing over the entire Pacific Slope and plateau
region1 except over Northern Utah, where
rain is falling. Temperatures are somewhat
higher over Eastern Washington, Oregon and
Southwestern Idaho.
The indications point to continued fair
weather over this forecast district Sunday.
