PURSES HUNG llacc for 2:11 Pacers Alone Attracts 31 Entries, and List for Re mainder of Programme Is Very Large. "Portland in September" Is the Flocan of the harness horsemen of the "West. The harness races to be given Tiere at that time in connection with the Pacific National Livestock Show of the Portland Country Club and Live stock Association are responsible for this interest. The 1908 fairs of the North Pacific Fair Association. Port land being a member, lose little by comparison with the grand circuit Liberal purses are offered all along the line and the harness horsemen liave responded in kind with their en tries. Leading stables of Oregon, "Washington, Idaho and California will be well represented in the Portland meeting. Three stables from Mon tana, two from Denver, four from Al berta and Saskatchewan and several from British Columbia, complete the list. The list of entries was completed yesterday. The Open River Purse, a 2:14 pace, value $1000, is the first number on Portland's programme, in which the record-breaking number of 31 pacers will contest. The Country Club Purse, for 2:13 trotters, value $2500, has brought out 29 entries. Another $2530 purse, the Bose City, for 2:0! pacers. Is close up with 20 entries. Kven the colt stakes have filled well. A more classy lot of horss never met on a "Western track. The sport promised will be of the highest type. M. D. Wisdom is fresh from his travels in the Interest of the North Pacific Fair Association, returning re cently from Petal uma, Cal. Mr. Wis dom is guide, philosopher and friend to the harness fraternity. Mr. Wisdom nays, comprehensively, that entries to the Portland races "are all the way from Pike's Peak to the Pacific and -from the North Pole to the Mexican line." The whole list is a starry field. Every day of the meeting, September 21-26, will be a good day. The great breeders of the West, and some from the Kast, will be at the livestock show with their best horses, cattle, sheep and swine. The extensive plans for these events show how the world is watching Portland grow into a live stock center and a harness racing point. Lynn Mathewson -won the Rocky Mountain en durance race of stock motor cars over the Sand Creek course north of this city today, running 320 miles in 8 hours, 25 minutes and 58 seconds. The course was 32 miles long and Mathewson's average time for each of the ten laps was 50 minutes, 52 seconds. All the cars were disabled, with the exception of e Gas ton's, when Mathewson finished. De Gaston was flagged when he reached the starting point and not al lowed to finish the race. At that time he was 32 miles behind the winner. No one was injured during the race, which was witnessed by 30.000 people. Mathewson's official time was given as 8 hours, 25 minutes. 39 seconds.
