and the Brooklyn M. T. School captured
the relay championship for high schools.

Pennsylvania, wa ifiybody's race from

Star Performance of lay.
The star performance in the field events

by A. O. Kraenzclin. but he had a very

In the hammer-throw M. F. Horr. of
Syracuse University, threw the hammer
173 feet & inches, two inches short of the
world's record, but the throw was not al
lowed because he stepped outside the ring;.

Whitman College defeated the University
of Washington In the annual track meet,
held on the campus yesterday afternoon,
by a score of 57 to 55. Defeated even be
fore the relay, which they figured on tak
Inp. the university athletes let that event

context was Thilbrook's throwing the dis
cus a distance of 1:11 feet 6 Inches, which
breaks the Pacific Coast record. His
nearest rival was Bantx. who was unable
to set the mifsile out more than 118.7 feet.
The meet was devoid of results outside
of the discus. Martin, of Whitman, was
victor in ttie broad Jump with a leap of
SI. 3 feet. Martin, of the Missionaries,
pave a classy exhibition in the 100-yard
dash, running away from Qreene and
House, of Washington. His time vas
S'-eonde. Washington took only three first
places Martin and Phllbrook, both of
"Whitman, were brilliant stars, each pull
ing down four firsts. Besides his record
for firsts in the hurdles, discus and ehot
XU't, Phllbrook got second in the high
Jump. Adding to this his breaking of a
t'osst record, the big Whitman athlete's
performance was remarkable. Martin.

bell. This event was intensely interesting.

Easily Aliead of Stanford, but the
Freshmen Meet Defeat.
SAN FRANCISCO. April 25. The shell
of the Cniverslty of California, pulled
through the smooth waters of Sausalito
Bay by eight men. all of them over, six
feet in height, was two and a half lengths
ahead of the shell of the Stanford crew
t the finish of the two and a half mile
race. The time waa 13 minutes. IS sec
onds. In the freshmen race over the same
course. Stanford won by fonr lengths;

The day was Ideal, the water perfect
and the crowd large.

Poorly-Played Game End in Score

SALEM. Or.. April 25. Special.) In
a same poorly played on both sides and
devoid of sensational Incidents. Univer
sity of Oregon defeated Willamette at
baseball this afternoon by a score of 10
to 4. In the first Inning Hinkle walked
four men. three of them In succession,
thus giving Willamette the only score
secured up to the sixth Inning, when
Nace made a three-base hit that brought
in Booth and Moore, and then got home
himself on a hit by Doegv. Oregon's
score was due partly to good batting, but
more to poor fielding.
The game presented a strong contrast
with that of yesterday, when Salem High
School arid the University of Oregon
played an almost perfect game of 12
Innings with a score of 3 to 2 In favor of
Oregon.

school lad, at a track meet this after
noon ran 50 yards In 6 1-5 seconds,
establishing a new world'a amateur
record.
Mlllette also ran 100 yards In 10 1-5.
Ha la 1$ years old and weighs about
110 pounds. Three stop watches were
held on Mlllette when he made his
record.

FIGHTS ROBBER IN CELL
Farmer Beats Man Who Stole $720
From Him.
Accidentally placed In the feame cell
with the farmer he had garrotted and
robbed of $720. Finis Brown, alias
Bonaparte, alia Hunter, an ex-convict,
nearly met his "finis" yesterday after
noon in the City Jail at the rands of
the sturdy rustic who immo liataly rec
ognized Brown as the thug who had
lobbed him. Seiainsr Brown, Miller im
mediately proceeded to pound the iron
furniture of the coll with the thug's
sirus-gliner form.
"You are the man who robbed me."

eyes on Brown. Here's where we'll

Brown, who was arrested in Vancou

city yesterday afternoon by Captain
Baty.
