HUGHES KEEPS HANDS OFF
REFCSE8 TO AID IN SELECTION
OF DELEGATES.
Writes Republican State Chairman,
Announcing His Adherence to
Views Heretofore Expressed.
ALBANY, N. Y.. April 4. Governor
Hughes has refused to make any sugges
tion as to the personnel of the delegation
to be s?nt to the R 'publican National
Convention by the state convention, which
will be held in New York City next Satur
day. He gave out late this afternoon a
letter to that effect addressed to Chairman
Woodruff, of. the RepuWiean state com
mi. je. The letter is aelf-explanatory and
says
I do not desire to tr.ake any suggestions
as tu those who should be selected as dele
gates. Personally. I should not care to ex
press any preference as between individuals.
I desire to adhere to the attitude wbicti I
have publicly announced, that I shou!4 not
enrteavor to influence the election or the
vote of de:eyats to any convention. I
know of no food reason far chenx-ixic this
position.
They are responsible to the voters for
their choice, and in turn the delegatea-at-large
to the National Convention should be
directly exclusively responsible to the body
selecting them.
