Thursday night at the Orcgon'Yacht Club,
when they were assistrd by Robert Good
and Dr. F. C. Mellich. The clubhouse
was artistically arranged with flowers

the form of a dancing parly.

the engagement of her daughter, Frances
Graham, to W. Frank Whitley, for
merly of Dallas. Texas, now of Seattle,

March 17, at the First Christian Church.

of the past week was given yesterday
afternoon by Mrs. Elliot Habersham at
her residence on Irving street. Presiding

The annual freshman glee at the Uni
versity of Oregon, which wa.s held last
Saturday night, was one of the most bril
liant social affairs ever given In the col
lege town. The big armory was deco
rated with pennants, and the scene was
one of gaiety. There were more than 400
guests participating in the grand march.

uate, acted as floor manager, and the
other members of the committee were

On Friday evening the Beta Epsllon
Sorority gave a reception in honor of its
guests, and the Tau Pi Sorority gave a
similar affair on Saturday afternoon. The
Sigma Xu Fraternity kept open house
on Sunday afternoon.
The social affairs of the Oregon stu
dents are attracting more attention each
year and are becoming immensely popu
lar. The four big events of the year are
the sophomore hop, which is always held
early in December: the freshman glee, on
the third Saturday in January; the junior
prom., usually held In March. ' and the
alumni ball during commencement week.

A very pleasant event occurred last
Monday when u large number of the
members of Mount Hood Circle. Women
of Woodcraft, planned and carried out a
surprise party at the home of Mrs. J.
Ira 'Routlerige. at Bust Twenty-ninth and
Belmont streets. The occasion was the
birthday of Mrs. Routledge, who is a
very popular member of the order.
About 3ft of her friends suddenly appeared
at her home, at 11 o'clock Monday morn
ing, bringing with them refreshments and
many intentions of having a good time,
which were fully carried out. It was a
most complete surprise to Mrs. Routledge
and.the day was pleasantly spent in card
playing, music and recitations. During

speech on behalf of the friends present.

At the home of Mrs. George E. Tilden,
frtii East Morrison street, the monthly tea
of the Ladles' Missionary Society of the
Hawthorne Presbyterian Church, was
given Tuesday afternoon and attended by
51 ladles of the society. Mrs. O. M. Scott,
secretary, and Mrs. Lucas, treasurer, were
present. An Interesting programme was
rendered. Mrs. W. D. Deavor rendered a
solo. "Don't Cry. Little Girl, Don't Cry."
She responded to an encore by singing
"Goodby. Sweet Day." Mrs. Bertha
Grimes followed with a solo, "Ah, 'Tis a
Dream," and responded to an encore.
"Drink to Me Only With Thine Eyes."
MTss Florence Smith, a well-known elocu
tionist, entertained the company with sev
eral selections in a most happy manner.
Violet Hayes gave an instrumental solo
most charmingly. The hostess was as
sisted in receiving the ladies by Mrs. Mo
Leod. The reception lasted from 2:30 to 5
P. M., and was one of the most enjoyable

Jack L. McConnell entertained a num
ber of his young friends at a birthday
party at his home on East Bumelde street
last Thursday evening. The event was
also in honor of his brother.-Samuel, who
had just returned from a trip to Califor
nia with his bride. The evening was
spent pleasantly in games aid music,
after which a delicious cupper was served.

A very prettj- wedding took place at the home of the groom's sister,
Mrs. George Bishop, Twenty-eighth and Clinton streets, when J.- II.
Kunz and Miss Helen Sauermann were united in marriage by Rev.
J. R. McGlade. The bride and groom were attended by Mr., and Mrs.
Dutsher. The bride carried bride's roses and the bridesmaid pink carna-'
tions. The rooms were beautifully decorated in ivy. Oregon grape and
ferns aiid the dining-room was lighted' with Chinese lanterns. The
couple stood under a wedding bell made of ferns. Mrs. Guy Depue
played the wedding march. Many handsome presents were received.
Mr. Kunz Is Oregopian agent- for Brooklyn and Sellwood. The bride
is well known in society circles. After congratulations and a wedding -supper,
Mr. and Mrs. Kunz left for their own home, 630 Brooklyn street.

Salem society this season was the unique
Chinese domino party given by Miss
Eleene L. Fawk on Saturday afternoon,
of this week, in honor of Miss Lenna
Eleanor Cavanagh, who is to be 'married
February 19. to Otho O. Regan. The
Fawk home, at Nob Hill, was elaborately
decorated throughout In Chinese effect.
Two Chinese tots drew in- cart, ladened
with china, as a gift to Miss Cavanaugh
from her girl friends. Maidens gowned in
Chinese robes waited upon the guests at
numerous small tables throughout the
spacious parlors. Rice novelties, ginger
root, wafers and tea were served irf

and grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. Ernst Schneider celebrated their golden
wedding last Sunday. 'The aged couple are in good health and enter
tained their guests TOyally. Mr. and Mrs. Schneider were married in
Germany in 1858 and came to this country In 1874, settling first In
Nebraska. In 1889 they cttme to Oregon, where they have lived ever
since. They are well known and highly respected in. the community in
which they reside. The celebration was held at the home of theif son,
Arthur Schneider. Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. August Bremer,
Mr. and Mre. Will Breroer, Mrs. Boberg, Paul Brinkman, of Portland;
Mrs. Carbiner, Allan Dresher, John Dresher. Mr. and Mrs. August Koppe,
Mr. and Mrs. Nov, Mr. and Mrs. Schulz. of Portland;: Mr. and Mrs.
Wachtmann. The presents were many and useful, "
library, subject, "Light, the Great Uni
fying Element in a Picture." with illus
trations from the works of Rembrandt,
