MONEY TO AID CONGRESS
Chamber of Commerce Contributes
for Better Waterwayg.
The Portland -Chamber of Commerce
will" tomorrow forward a draft for J150O,
to the secretary of the National Rivers
and Harbors Congress, at Washington
for the support of the Congress in its
work of securing an annual appropriation
from the Government of 50,000,000 for lm
provement of the rivers and harbors of
the country. This amount which the
Chamber Is forwarding is in addition to
the regular subscription to the congress
taken from the general fund of the local
body, and is made possible by reason of
public spirit of the business men of the
city who contributed It, believing as they
do that the congress has done more than
any other body towards securing from the
Government an annual appropriation for
river and harbor improvement.
It is a matter of record that the con
tributiona sent to the congress by the
Jocal Chamber of Commerce are con
siderably in excess of those received from
any other section of the country.
