distribute. An assemblage of wares which includes novelties from every land, but more essentially a vast collection of practical merchandise for practical needs, at prices
lower than usual because of volume in buying, direct from the fountain heads of production.

Extraordinary Attraction in a Washington-St.
Display Window of the Store!
The Footwear of All Nations !
Exposition of 21 Shoes From Foreign Lands Valued at Thousands of Dollars! Side by Side With the World's Best
and Newest Footwear, made by American Shoemakers, and Worn by the Smartest Dressers of Both Hemispheres !
- t
- i
The Chief of the Store's Shoe Section has arranged another unordinary attraction,
sure to arouse the attention of thousands to his lines the coming week. Thru the cour
tesy of a large Eastern manufacturer who has loaned us his valuable collection of
foreign-made footwear, we are enabled to place the same on exhibition in one of the
large Washington-street windows of the Store. We invite the general public to inspect
this unique and interesting exhibit; it's worth coming miles to see. Lack of space for
bids the detailed delineation on this page which this truly educational display is worthy
of. It's an exhibition that no man, woman or-child should miss of peculiar interest
to schoolteachers and their pupils. Touching along the different shoes that make
up this strange group of foreigners, the eye lights on an
East Indian Shoe Valued Alone at $1500.00
This shoe is a low-cut of peculiar appearance, once worn by an East Indian Prince,
who was a private attendant upon the late Queen Victoria of England, mother of the
reigning King Edward. "
Next we note the boots worn by the Hungarian peasant children rough, tough cow
hide affairs, that savor of the military styles affected by the Japs.
The wooden sandals of the Swiss mountain-climbers, with their bottoms of heavy
spikes and skate-strap fastenings, are among the most curious of all the exhibits.
The woven manilla alzargates (sandals) worn by the natives of Buenos Ayres and
the Argentine Republic, will attract thousands of curious eyes this week, as will also
the Turkish sandals made of native skins and fancifully worked with Turkish grasses.
The house sandal of Rio de Janeiro and the old English army shoes, with the Japan
ese military boot the latter hand-made by the expert and industrious "little
brown men," are objects of much interest.
The military shoes worn by the armies of Switzerland, and the Japanese low-cut
shoes worn only by the nabobs of Japan, will deserve and receive interest from all
beholders.
. And here's a shoe worn in the foundries of our own great and. glorious America!
Wonder how many of our Oregon folk ever saw these great, awkward-looking brogans
in black and red cowhide, with their slugged soles of steel nails?
The Holland military shoes interest in comparison with those of our own and other
countries. A curious creation indeed is the Arabian sandal made entirely of grass.
The boot worn by the wealthy Hollander attracts much attention.
But the nearest approach to the smart," neat, comfortable and durable footwear for
which the American shoemaker is so justly famous is the neat, trim, handsome tan shoe
made by the Japanese. One might almost suspicion it to be a product of Lynn, Mass..
experts, so closely does it resemble the peerless American product.
It's a marvelous exhibit don't miss seeing it. It's here for a few days only.
Accompanying this most unique showing of the foreign-made footwear we shall pre
sent for your inspection examples of ,
