Hundred Year Club Raixt. Next Fri
day night at the First Congregational
Church there will be a rally of the
Hundred Year Club. The 600 members of
the club will have the privilege of invit
ing their friends to this rally, and It is
expected that the reunion will be a
1 most enjoyable one. The feature of the
evening will be a demonstration by Mr.
Flynn and Mrs. Mclntyre, who have Just
returned to Portland from the East.
This demonstration next Friday will be
free. Announcement will be made on this
occasion of the classes In health culture
now being formed In three of Portland's
largest and most popular churches. At
a meeting of the board of directors held
last Friday, It was decided to offer $10
In cash for the most beautiful and appro
priate design for a club pin. This offer
Is open to the public generally. It is
quite probable that the Hundred Year
Club of Los Angeles, which also num
bers some hundred of enthusiastic mem
sers, will adopt the same design for club
sin and stationery.
Penetrate Remote Reoion. Will G.
steel. F. C. Little and F. H. Kiser recent
ly returned from a trip to Mount Steel, In
the heart of the Olympics. From the
summit of the mountain they were en-'
ablcd to see the. entire Olympic range and
to follow with the eye the course of all
the streams originating therein. The dis.
tance from Lake Cushman Isa little less
than 12 miles on a straight line, whereas
by trail It Is 2a. Application has been
made to the Forestry Division to have
this trail Improved and If the petition Is
granted it will make the Olympics one of
the most easily accessible of any rugged
mountain region on the coast. Heretofore
It has been considered practically inac
cessible. They report, seeing two elk and
abundant signs of deer and bear, but made
no effort to secure game. Several days
were spent at Lake Cushman, where fish
ing was indulged In.
Assigned to Roskbuho. Rev. Father
W.. A. Waltt, who has been assistant
pastor of St. Francis Church. East Elev
enth and Oak streets, to Rev. P.- H.
Wlack, the- pastor, left yesterday for
Roseburg. where he will enter on his
work as rector of that parish today. For
the two years he had been connected with
St. Francis Church he made many warm
friends. It was through his encourage
ment that Gregorian' music was intro
duced at St. Francis and other Catholic
Churches. Rev. Mr. Black, the regular
pastor, bears testimony to the high
standing of Father AValtt while assistant.
He came here from Minneapolis. Rose
burg Is one of the most Important charges
in Southern Oregon and his assignment Is
considered a promotion by the Arch
bishop. Postpones Opening of School. Pro
fessor D. M. Metzger, dean of the faculty
of Dallas College, who is filling the
pulpit of the First United Evangelical
.Church. East Side, Js In the city. He says
that the faculty has postponed opening
of the school until September 25 on ac
count of the absence of so many of the
pupils In the hopflelds. Professor Metzger
says that the faculty expects the best
year In the history of that Institution.
Police on the Carpet. Patrolman
Burke appeared before the police com
missioners yesterday to answer charges
preferred against him by citizens to the
effect that he had tried to have an arti
cle published In a weekly paper which
would reflect on the character of a mar
ried man. This case and the, case of Pa
trolman Porter, accused of creating a
disturbance at the Oaks, were taken
under advisement.
W. C. T. U. 'Dat or Prater. Septem
ber as Is the day set aside by the National
Women's Christian Temperance Union as
a universal day of prayer and the date
will be fittingly observed by the local
branches of the Oregon State unions. The
official call has been issued by Mrs. Lucia
Faxton Additon. state president, and Mrs.
Ida Barkley, state evangelistic superin

Obstructed a Sidewalk. A complaint
has been filed against Charles M. Boost,
of the Portland Wire & Iron Company,
corner Third and Flanders, for placing
rolls of wire and iron on the sidewalks,
thereby obstructing traffic In front of
their store. The case will be called in
the Municipal Court Monday.
Laymen Are in Charge. The Lay
men's Association has charge of morning
service at the Taylor-street Methodist
Church today. Dr. Short, B. Lee Paget
and T. S. McDanlel will speak. In the
evening the pastor will deliver his last
illustrated sermon, and sing "The Ninety
and Nine."

Workmen Hol.i Meeting, The first of
a series of meetings to be held by the
various A. O. U. V. lodges of this city
during the Winter was held In Drew
Hall, corner Second and Morrison streets,
iaBt night, by Hope Lodge, No. 1. A
large number of Workmen were In at
tendance. Addresses were made by
Supreme Representatives Newton Clarke,
D. Soils Cohen, Ralph Feeney and J. W.
Paddock. General Information regarding
the condition of the organization was
dispensed. After the speeches the cigars
were passed and a social time was en
Joyed. The object of these meetings is to
create enthusiasm among the lodge mem
bers. The next' meeting will probably
be held by TJpchurch Lodge early in
October.
Accused op Embezzlement. H. M.
Fancher, secretary of the Forestry Inn
Association, was arrested yesterday on a
warrant sworn out by S. H. Gruber
charging him with embezzlement of $70
of the company's money, and later re
leased on his own recognizance by Judge
Cameron, Attorney Gruber acquiescing.
Fancher asserts his Innocence. He was
detected by Frank Hennessy, clerk of the
Municipal Court, and arrested by Patrol
man O'Brien.
Mrs. W. A. Eivers wishes to announce
to the doctors and, her friends that she
