Cumpletino Vancouver Roadwat.
Road Supervisor Simmons Is completing
repairs to the county elevated roadway
on the Vancouver road between the Col
umbia Slough road and the new county
road that follows the new trestle of the
Portland Railway Company to the new
landing at the Columbia River. That por
tion of the old roadway between the Col
umbia Slough road and the new road is
saved as part of the through road for
vehicles to and from Vancouver. Mr.
Simmons said yesterday that he would
have the repairs completed some time
next week. The remainder of the elevated
roadway that extends to the former ferry
landing, now abandoned by the railway,
will be retained and used by the farm
ers who live along the Columbia River.
For them It is a great convenience.
Improvements at Women's Union. The
committee In charge of the Women's
Union boarding-house at Fifteenth and
Flanders streets has been lately further
Improving the property by laying a ce
ment floor in the basement, and steps
and walks around the outside or the
building. The management of this val
uable property and Institution reflects the
greatest credit on the whole-souled, clear
beaded women by whom it is conducted,
and who are literally "building better
than they know.",
Services at Campground. There will
be three services today at the camp
ground of the Kvangelical Association at
Jennings Lodge. The morning meeting
will be at 10:30. afternoon at 2 o'clock and
evening at 7:30. Considerable attendance
Is expected from the Portland Kvangellcal
churches. The campmeetlng will continue
through the coming week. Every morn
ing there will be a conference of minis
ters at 9:40 o'clock, beginning this morn
,ing, led by Rev. J. J. Hoffman.
Phrenoigt. Prof. G. Morris will give
free lectures and free public examinations
for men, women and children, on Monday,
Thursday and Saturday evenings of this
and next week, at the Western Academy
of Music Hall. Second and Morrison
streets. The museum In the hall will be
open free to visitors every afternoon ex
cept Sundays. Private readings from 12
lo 6 P. M. every afternoon and evening
except evenings of public lectures.
TiqHBNOB-DEVLiN Marriage. Miss An
na Devlin was married last night at the
home of her mother, Mrs. W. Devlin, at
::ii8 lvon street, to Grover Tichenor, a
Portland contractor. The house was beau
tifully decorated, and about 40 guests wit
nessed the ceremony, which was per
formed by Rev. H. Oberg, of Trinity
Methodist Episcopal Church. Both are
well known and popular. They will make
their home on the East Side.

Short Circuit Disables Converter.
A short circuit was formed on the rotary
ronverter at the power station of the
Portland General Electric Company at
Seventh and Alder streets, last night,
about 7 o'clock, and the street-car serv
ice was tied up for about five minutes.
Damage was slight.
Quarter-Block Sold. The quarter
block on the northeast corner of Union
avenue and San Rafael streets was sold
yesterday to Felix and Joseph Ehleyer
for $,".1100. The former owner was H. B.
Glover, now of England.

Sunstroke Causes Paralysis. W. J.
Townsend. former collector for Mitchell,
Lewis & Staver Co., Is very ill at the
Portland Sanitarium. He Is suffering with
partial paralysis, the result of sunstroke
suffered at Boise, Idaho. His invalid wife
Is with him.

Shingle Mill Will Be Pioneer Town's
First Kindred Industry.
Milwaukie is to have a shingle factory.
Jeffries Dennis has just purchased 2
acres of water front land adjoining where
the old Standard Flour Mill formerly
stood, and already preliminary work on
the plant has been started.
It is announced that the mill will have
a capacity of SOO0 shingles per clay. A
sidetrack will be laid from the O. W. P.
line. After a time the firm may erect a
small mill in connection with the shingle
factory. The company has excellent
water front. It is the first factory of the
sort to be erected in the pioneer town of
Milwaukie.

the most complete on the Pacific Coast,
and place us in a position to handle eco

abreast. If not ahead, of the times
in the Introduction of the -very
latest scientific appliances to ac
complish results as near perfection
as possible in our plants. We shall ever
be glad to furnish estimates and sketches,
and advice to the best of our ability, to
those Intending to build, architects and
others interested.
