pleasant meeting or the New V'ork Society
wa. held last Monday evening at the
home of Albert Vail, on the Section Line
road. There wero many members of the
society present, and the evening was
sent in recalling reminiscences of down
Kasl life. Those who failed to attend
missed one of the most successful and en
joyable meetings yet held by the New
"Yorker?.

at the home of Mrs. 1 H. Additon. the
state president, a large company of la
dies being present. After routine busi
ness the topic. "Temperance Training in
the Home," was discussed. Mrs. Ella
Kankhauscr gave a report of the flower
mission anniversary, which was full of in
terest to the members present. Mrs. Ida
English, secretary of the Sarah Kern W.
C. T. U., was a guest. The next meeting
will take place at the home of the presi
dent, Mrs. Uzzit- Hoakins, at Mount Scott
Park, next Tuesday. July 10, 2:30 o'clock.
"How to Teach Purity in the Home" will
be the topic for the afternoon. All will
be welcome.

A. Ahlers. of Montavilla school district,
has completed an inventory of the prop
erty of that district, preparatory to turn
ing it over to the Portland district when
ever called on to do so. H. B. Dickinson,
of the Board of Directors, said that the
teachers had signed up their contracts.
Before the vote on annexation, the Direc
tors elected the teachers. Mr. Dickinson
said yes'erday the Directors had not re
clved" notice to turn over the property as
yet. It is supposed that all" the other dis
tricts are now prepared to turn over their
property whenever called on to do so.

Funeral of Winifred F. Maginnis.
The funeral of Winifred F. Maginnis.
aged 115 years, was held yesterday from
the St. Mary's Church. Williams avenue
and Stanton street, and Mount Calvary
Cemetery was the place of interment.
She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Charles P. Maginnis. She died July t at
the home of her parents, 420 East Fif
teenth street North.

Jumps Eighteen Feet and Is Seri
ously Hurt. Becoming alarmed while
taking a load of casket shells on an ele
vator to an upper floor, George Reuter. an
employe of the Oregon Casket Company,
301 North Fifth street, jumped from the
moving elevator to the floor, a distance
of about 18 feet, and was seriously In
jured. It is believed Reuter sustained in
ternal injuries which may prove fatal.
Reuter struck on his side, losing con
sciousness. His fellow-workmen ran to
his assistance and summoned a physician,
who ordered the man taken to the hospi
tal. He was removed to St. Vincent's
Hospital, and is said to be in a precarious
condition.
