LONDON. Jan. 6. Lord Rothschild, In
a speech at Waterford today. In support
of the protectionist candidate, Thomas
Frederick Halsey, the sitting member, an
nounced himself as a "free trader in
favor ot the negotiation of tariff treaties
with other countries."
He said lie had never hidden the fact
that he was a free trader. He objected
strongly to the taxation of the food of
the people, and could not understand how.
In the peculiar situation of this island,
protective tariffs could be built up. At
the same time, he must also say that he
was In favor of negotiation, not to use
the word retaliation. They all remem
bered the advantage of Cobden's treaty
with France and under the recent trea
ties which Lord Lansdownc had negoti
ated with Roumania and Bulgaria, Lan
cashire goods would now be admitted to
those countries at much lower tariffs
than hitherto;

WOMAN'S BREAST

Most Common Pisces for Cancer
San Francisco EziiEincr
The papers recently made reference to
people cured of cancers without knife or
Sain by Dr. & Mrs. Dr. Chamley & Co.
ince then their cures of many prominent
people have occasioned much comment.
These people say their cures were most
marvelous, many of them having been
pven up to die. They first obtained the
Doctors' book, the best ever published,
teaching that any lump in woman's breast
is cancer. It lead, they say, to the great
est blessing of their lives. This instruc
tive book is sent free to those describing
their cases.
All the leading newspapers and medi
cal journals of the world have noted the
Doctors' wonderful cures. They charge
nothing until cured and offer $1000 if
they fail. It is said they have cured more
cancers than any other physicians living.
No X Ray or other swindle. A Pacific
Island plant extract makes the cure in the
privacy of the patient's own home. Ad

NEW TODAY.
The
Big
City
It is now evident to every ob
server that a large city is being
built on the high tableland be
tween the Willamette and Co
lumbia Rivers.
Factory District
The level land along the two
rivers is being rapidly covered
with mills, factories, shops,
docks, warehouses, grain eleva
tors and wholesale houses. The
high, smooth, level peninsula
that is surrounded by the great
field of industries, and suitable
for homes, retail stores, banks,
hotels, lodgings, schools, etc., is
limited when compared with the
demand that must necessarily
follow the upbuilding of the in
dustrial district.
Railroads
This peninsula is now en
circled by the Harriman system,
which includes the Union Pacific,
Southern Pacific and the Oregon
Railroad & Navigation Com
pany's lines. The Northern
Pacific, Great Northern and the
Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul
are now entering this great sub
urb of Portland. It seems that
every enterprise of great import
ance to the Pacific Northwest is
seeking a location along this
peninsula.
University Park
University Park is the center
of this rapidly developing dis
trict and is growing at a wonder
ful rate. It is the seat of the
Columbia University, which is a
progressive school of higher
education and brings to its sur
roundings a cultured class. Uni
versity Park has the far-famed
Bull Run water, which comes
from above the line of vegeta
tion on Mount Hood. It has
quick street-car service to all
parts of Portland for a 5-cent
fare. It has a system of wide
boulevard, graded streets, alleys,
electric street lights, in fact,
every convenience of a large city.
High Values
We predict that real estate
values at University Park will
go from 10 per front foot to
1000 per front foot in less than
half the time that it took any
other property in Portland to
rise from $10 per front foot to
S1000 per front foot.
Prices Climbing
Prices are rapidly advancing
at University Park. Business
lots are now selling for ?10 per
front foot and residence lots for
?5 per front foot. If you desire
to get a home site or a business -location
in this rapidly deveop
ing district you should buy at
once.
Terms Easy
Our terms are 10 per cent
cash, balance 5 monthly on
each lot without interest if all
payments be paid on or before,
due. Every day delay means
higher prices.
