OREGONIAN NEWS BUREAU, "Wash ington. Nov. 4. It. can be stated -on re liable authority that the Roosevelt ad ministration is la sympathy with' the movement now on foot In Oregoir'to in duce Senator Mitchell and Representa tives Hermann and "Williamson to resign their seats in Congress. Officials of the' administration share the belief universal-" ly held in Washington that Oregon should r.ot be denied representation in .Congress,;, IK Is acknowledged .that Mitchell, Her-,, xnann and Williamson will never again be able to - render their state effective service; they certainly cannot do so under prealllng conditions. Jt being apparent that not one of-these men could possibly be in position to perform active - duty as a memler- of the Fifty-ninth Congress, the administration thinks It Is incumbent upon thein all to resign, fay Ilusten Mitchell Case. For obvious reasons, no member of the administration can be Quoted on this matter, but, if the President's views and those of his various Cabinet officers -could he printed, the people of Oregon would have no doubt as o the position of the administration. So far, the administra tion has done nothing to force Mitchell, Hermann or Williamson out of Congress, though some officials of the Department of Justice have been urging the Attorney General to ask for an advancement of the Mitchell case on the aocket of the United States Supreme Court. If this is done, and the Supremo. Court sustains the find ings of the, lower court, Mitchell will bo deprived vof Ills seat some time this Win ter and Governor Chamberlain 'will have an opportunity to appoint "his successor to serve until "March '4, 1907. Hermann's Plans for Delay. There Is nothing the administration can do at this time to compel the retirement rf Hermann or Williamson. On the other hand, there is grave fear that Hermann -will make another of his Shrewd moves and thwart flic purpose of the Govern ment to bring him to trial this Winter. If Hermann is not brought to Mt'rlal in Oregon ocf pre. Congress convenes 911 De cember 4( it is feared he wl"l come to Washington, attempt to take the oath of office and, if successful, will then be exempt from trial until the close of the session, which will probably "be some time N Liquid Sunshine Acknowledged Peer of Remedial Agents by ENGLANDS' COURT PHYSICIAN.
