Mottett St. Martin's Springs Gordon & Wctherell Grangers Hold Reunion. .Several hundred Grangers, with their families, of Washington County, gathered yester day near Sholes Ferry, on the Tualatin River, and enjoyed the day In a good old-fashioned reunion. Some of the lead ing members of the farmers' order in Jhe state were present. Appropriate addresses were delivered by Mrs. Clara Waldo, of Marlon County, a leading member; Judge Hare, of Hillsboro; Dr. James Withycombe. The power and purpose of the Grange, as an Instrument for the general betterment of the farmer, his sons and daughters, and the uplifting of his condition, was the keynote of the talks of the day. Other short talks were made. Fine music was furnished by the Ladies' Band of Hillsboro. A basket luncheon was served and the guests were treated royally. It was one of the most enjoyable reunions the Grangers of Washington County have held. Will Ask for Steel B judge. A peti tion will be circulated in a short time asking that a steel bridge be built across 'Sullivan's Gulch-on Union avenue, so that the work of construction may be started before the present roadway has to be closed up again. When repaired a few months ago it was estimated that the roadway would stand about a year, when It would again have to be repaired, or replaced with a new structure. It Is thought that a steel structure that will last for many years can be built to cost hetween $50,000 and $75,000, and, according to the result of the vote in June, the bridge will be paid for by general taxa tion of the whole city. The Portland Consolidated Railway Company, which has double tracks on Union avenue, will have to pay Its part of the cost when & steel bridge la erected. Baseball Todat, 10:30. and 2:30.
