'RESIDENCES LEAD BUILDING .Transfers of Real Estate for the AVcek Aggregate Nearly Two Hundred Thousand Dollars. Building Active. Upper Washington 6treet has received more attention from purchasers of realty of 'late than any one district. More than three-fourths of the frontage on Wash ington street between Fourteenth and Twentieth streets has changed hands within the last few months. Last week brought out the sale of 460 feet, occupied "by the old Exposition building, to Russell & Blyth and F. W. Leadbetter, and an SO-foot lot .across the street by Frank T. Hart for JS000. On the latter site a three-etory frame building will be erected Immediately. A similar structure with a Jreater frontage will be erected at Six teenth and Washington. At the extreme upper end, just east of Twenty-third, the new hotel to be built by a Silverfleld for Mrs. Sarah Hill Ih now under course of construction. It will be of the apartment house outward appearance, which is likely to become a common form of architecture in Portland before long, as in most Amer ican cities. Dwellings, however, still lead In the rec ords of building permits issued. Of those issued last week, the following averaged between $3000 and $4000: J. G. Burness, Belmont and East Twelfth; D. J. Finn, East Harrison and East Ninth; F. Breske, Hall and Park; Mrs. Carrie F. Aitken, "East Seventeenth and Alder; Dr. Holden, Spring and Chapman, on Portland Heights, and Dr. A. E. Whiteside, Twenty-first and Qulmby. The principal, sale of down-town realty -was the southeast corner of Second and Stark to T. Scott Brooke and Dr. A. J. Giesy for $50,000.
