be made at once, nor without some inter
ruption, though the Interruption in this
case will be the least possible. There will,

Wobth Seeing. The display of dia
monds, watches and Jewelry in the win
dow of the Portland Loan Office, 74 Third
st. Mr. Marx, the proprietor, states that
never before has he sold so many dia

mainly due to the steady rise In prices and
his ability to sell them for less money
than Jewelers, besides selling them on
easy weekly or monthly payments, with
out extra charge.

CARD OF THANKS.
Mrs. Llebe and family wish to thank all
friends and acquaintances for the kind
ness and attention shown in their bereave
ment THE VALUE OF CHARCOAL
Few People Know How Useful It Is In
Preserving Health and Beauty.
Nearly everybody knows that charcoal
is the safest and most efficient disinfectant
and purifier In nature, but few realize Its
value when taken into the human system
for the same cleansing purpose
Charcoal is a remedy that the more you
take of it the better; It Is not a drug at
all, but simply absorbs the gases and im
purities always present in the 6tomach
and intestines and carries them out of tho
system.
Charcoal sweetens the breath after
smoking, drinking or after eating onions
and other odorous vegetables.
Charcoal effectually clears and im
proves the complexion, it whitens the
teeth and further acts as a natural and
eminently safe cathartic
i It absorbs the Injurious gases which col
lect In the stomach and bowels; it disin
fects the mouth and throat from the
poison of catarrh.
AH druggists sell charcoal In one form
or another, but probably the best char
coal and the most for the money is In
Stuart's Charcoal Lozenges; they are
composed of the finest powdered Willow
Charcoal anti other harmless antiseptics
in tablet form, or rather in the form of
large pleasant-tasting lozenges, the char
coal being mixed with honey.
The dally use of these lozenges will soon
tell in a much Improved condition, of the
general health, better complexion, sweeter
breath and purer blood, and the beauty of
It Is that no possible harm can result
from their continued use, but on the con
trary, great benefit
A Buffalo physician. In speaking of the
benefits - of charcoal, says: "I advise
Stuart's Charcoal Lozenges to all pati
ents suffering from gas in stomach and
bowels, and to clear tho complexion and
purify the breath, mouth and throat; I
also believe the liver is greatly benefited
by the dally use of them; they cost but 25
cents a box at drug stores, and although
in some sense a patent preparation, yet I
believe I get more and better charcoal in
Stuart's Charcoal Lozenges than in any of
the ordinary charcoal tablets."

PEORIA, I1L, Dec 10. A daring bank
robbery was committed In tho heart of the
downtown district at 12:30 o'clock thl3
afternoon, when three men wearing slouch
hats entered the Peoria National "Bank'
and while two of the men covered F. A.
Bracken with revolvers, the third reached
through the teller's window and, seizing
about 5500 in currency and silver, made
his escape.
The three men dashed out of the build
ing after threatening those In the bank
and leaping Into the buggy standing near,
lashed the horses Into a run. The streets
were crowded at the time, and a large
crowd was Immediately In pursuit of the
men. Their flight was stopped by a crush
of drays In the wholesale district, and
they were stopped for a moment by the
crowd.
A display of revolvers frightened the
crowd back, and the robbers turned- and
fled In another direction. A big crowd
took up the chase, lncluuing several auto
mobiles, whose owners managed to keep
In sight of the men.
The men traveled rapidly and gained
on the crowd. They drove to the river
bank, where they abandoned their rig and
soon disappeared.
