James Roake returned from an extended trip to California on Christmas Day, and his family here were Joined by Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Roake, of Everett, Wash. The first annual ball given by McLough lln's Cabin, Native Sons of Oregon, at the Armory on Christmas night, was the greatest social event of the Winter. Fully 120 couple participated In the festivities of the function. The hall was artistical ly decorated with Oregon grape, cedar boughs, ferns and National flags, and was very attractive. Many of the electric globes were draped royal purple, the Na tive Son color, and the lettering on the walls, emblematic of the cabin, were formed of the green leaves of the Oregon wild grape. The draping around the mu sic stand also was attractive In its ef fects. The souvenir programmes were of Oregon pulp board, printed in purple, and the covers were ornamented with the cut of a log. cabin and an Indian In cos tume. Several guest were present from Portland and other sections of the state, while local society was out in full force. A number of pioneers also were In evi dence, two or three old-style dances hav ing been placed on the programme for their especial benefit. McMlnnville. Miss Lena Wyner, of Portland, spent Christmas vacation with relatives in Mc Mlnnville. Miss Yoram left McMlnnville last Satur day to spend the holidays with relatives in Eugene. Nell came from Portland to spend Christmas with his parents, and on Wednesday left for Kansas City for a short visit. Miss Theresa Bryant arrived home -from Seattle, and, after spending a few days with her family, has gone to San Fran cisco on a brief visit. A Christmas wedding took place at the home of A. Vandercarr Tuesday, R. A. Vandercarr being united In marriage with Mlsa Elsie Rhodes, of Klamath County, by the Rev. F. G. Strange, pastor of the Presbyterian Church. The J. E. Foss home at Talent was the scene of a very happy wedding, Decem ber 23, at high noon, when Welborn Bee son and Miss Nellie Foss were united In marriage by Rev. W. B. Moore. An elab orate wedding dinner followed the ceremony. Grant's Pass. Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Cords returned from San Francisco on Thursday, after an absence of several months. Mr. and Mrs. S. E. Harkness left on Saturday for Oakland, CaL, the former going by Coos Bay and steamer, and the latter direct by ralL The Firemen's Calico Ball at the opera house on Christmas night was a big suc cess. The floor was crowded, and danc ing was kept up till early morning. Fred Roper, of the firm of Wilson & Roper, was married on" Sunday to Miss Ella Williams, the couple leaving the same day for a honeymoon In San, Fran cisco. Mr. and Mrs. D. S. Klnsey and the JANUARY 2, 1901 many members of their family gave an enjoyable Christmas dinner Tuesday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Gray. Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Drowley went to Portland Friday, whence they visited Mrs. Drowley's mother at Kalama, Wash. They will not return until after New Tear. The P. P. P. Joseph Motters head, pastor of the Methodist Church, re ceived telegraphic advices informing him that he was to be transferred to a new field In Ohio. The death is announced of Mrs. Sara Lee, wife of Colonel James B. C. Lee, who was stationed here several years ago, Mrs. J. W. Wygant, wife of Lieutenant Wygant, Third Infantry, at Manila, was a great shock to her friends.
