Mr. Goddard had recently undergone an operation for appen dices, and his trip was intended as a surprise to his mother, whom he had not seen for eight years. On arriving at SL Paul he found a telegram awaiting him, announcing her death. The sad news greatly affected the young man's health, which was not the beet at the time of his leaving here. While in Chicago, Mr. Goddard went to several of the most skill ful physicians, and now comes back with the intention of being operated on for a tumor of the stomach. Mrs. Ann Jackson, familiarly known as " Grandma " Jackson, died early yesterday roornlne at her residence, on Thirteenth street, between lam hill and Taylor.
