Long Road to Recovery After Being Left Paralyzed
Woman grieves
the loss of her
son and also
dealing with her
own prognosis
A Vancouver, Washington
woman Aubree Young and her
infant child Kymani were hos-
pitalized after her 42 year old
husband David E. Stansbury, Jr
shot her and the baby before kill-
ing himself. Officers responded
around 3:20 p.m. December 7th
to the area of NW 152nd Street
and NW 4th Place in the Salmon
Creek neighborhood of Vancou-
ver. Young told 911 operators
her husband had just shot their
infant child, shot her, and then
shot himself.
Clark County Sheriff’s Office
deputies made their way into the
home, finding three people on
the ground with gunshot wounds.
Stansbury was pronounced dead
at the scene. Both the infant and
the woman were taken to the hos-
pital in critical condition. The
baby later died in the hospital on
Dec. 9 with his family by his side
according to KGW8.
Now, her community is rallying
to support young and her family
Aubree Young and her infant son, Kymani
during this unimaginable time. As
Aubree Young, grieves the loss of
her son, Kymani, she's also grap-
pling with her own prognosis.
There is a GoFundMe for the com-
munity to help in any way they
can. Amy Ruth, childhood friend
and Communications Director at
New Heights Church who is the
organizer of the fundraising page
shared young has been left para-
lyzed in her legs. She also stated
“I know that the bullet is lodged in
her spine, and there’s no plans to
remove that.”
They said it looks like she may
have a few months left of treat-
ments and recovery in the hospi-
tal. Home for now will be with her
parents. They are working to make
their current home wheelchair ac-
cessible with hopes to build an
ADU for Aubree on their property.
The bids they are receiving are in
the ballpark of $270,000-$300,000.
"Some tragedies are beyond
words and as much as we want to
answer why, no amount of detail
will satisfy the question," Ruth
wrote. "The family asks that the
public respect their privacy as
they navigate the complicated
grief ahead of them."
They said Aubree’s over-
whelmed by the love she’s re-
ceiving and said it’s made all
the difference. Those who know
her said it’s Aubree’s resilience
and desire to find some good
in this tragedy that’s inspired
them. To learn more and to sup-
