New U.S. Attorney
Oct. 5 - Natalie Wight, who was con-
firmed as Oregon’s U.S. attorney by the
U.S. Senate in September 2022, is the
first person of Black descent to hold the
office, and she gives credit to growing
up in Portland for her successes.
Portland Thorns Wins NWSL Championship
Nov. 2 - The Portland Thorns won the National Women’s Soccer League title in October in front of thousands of fans in a 2-0 victory
at the Audi Field in Washington DC. This is their third championship in team history. The first was in the league’s inaugural season in
2013 and the second in 2017.
New Governor Ready to Get to Work for Oregon Brothers Charged with Murder of Local Teen
Nov. 16 - Tina Kotek has been
elected Oregon’s next governor,
extending Democratic control of
the state’s top political office for
at least four more years. Kotek
joins Maura Healey of Massa-
chusetts as the first openly les-
bian elected governors in the
United States. She said she plans
to travel around Oregon starting
in January to talk to community
leaders about issues facing the
state, particularly the shortage of
affordable housing and addiction.
Dec. 7 - Two brothers have been
charged in connection with a shoot-
ing and hit-and-run that left 17-year-
old Sergio Hunt (pictured left) dead
May of last year according to the
Multnomah County District Attor-
ney’s Office. Keyshawn Pervish,
21, and Omarian Pervish, 18, were
arraigned on second-degree mur-
der, unauthorized use of a vehicle,
first-degree robbery and possession
of a stolen vehicle. Omarian was
also arraigned on a charge of unlaw-
ful use of a weapon.
