Portland drivers started seeing
traffic signs reminding them to
slow down as part of a new “Slow
the Flock Down” traffic safety
campaign that began this week.
The effort called Vision Zero
emphasizes that it never ethi-
cally acceptable that people are
killed or seriously injured when
driving on the road. When crash-
es do occur, safe speeds make it
less likely that people are killed
or seriously injured. The slogan
is a supposed to be a clever way
to get people’s attention and get
them to drive slower.
Crashes have increased over
the pandemic in Portland and
the city is ramping up safety
measures and awareness cam-
paigns. As a result, drivers
will now be seeing billboards,
online messaging and bus
stops with the “Slow the Flock
Down” design. The design
consists of a blue sign with
several yellow birds.
Those looking to help
spread awareness can pick
up “Slow the Flock Down”
yard signs from The Portland
Building, downtown.
