Construction rises along Northeast Killingsworth Street at 42nd Avenue where Portland Community
College is partnering with Home Forward to develop and manage affordable housing.
PCC joins with
Home Forward to
serve community
Portland Community Col-
lege has joined forces with
community housing provid-
ers who have the expertise
and resources needed to han-
dle new affordable housing
on campus sites.
The college is currently
working with Home Forward
to develop and manage an
affordable housing commu-
nity at The Portland Metro-
politan Workforce Training
Center (PMWTC), located at
Northeast Killingsworth and
42nd Avenue with substantial
help from the Native Ameri-
can Youth and Family Center
(NAYA) and the neighbor-
hood group Living Cully.
Under construction in the
Cully neighborhood of North-
east Portland, the site will in-
clude 84 affordable housing
units and other supportive
services to be accessed by
people living in the surround-
ing communities.
Larger units will be reserved
for families with children or
multiple roommates, and will
have units set aside for fami-
lies involved in the foster care
system. It’s anticipated that
other PCC campuses in the fu-
ture will be open to the com-
munity but heavily marketed
to PCC students. Students who
qualify will not lose housing if
they are not enrolled in col-
lege, officials said.
The construction at the
workforce training center re-
places two outdated buildings
giving community members
a wide range of services and
programs that will conve-
niently be under one roof. The
project combines classrooms,
meeting rooms, open work-
space as well as a community
room and common areas.
