COVID Emergency Extended
Gov. Kate Brown on Thursday extended
Oregon’s state of emergency for COVID-19
until June 28, saying a fourth surge of the
pandemic is being driven by variants of the
disease and causing increased cases and
hospitalizations. The risk level was also
increased to extreme in the Portland area,
limiting dining in restaurants.
Police Reform Bills Advance
The Oregon House passed nine bills last
week aimed at tackling police reform and
holding law enforcement accountable.
The slate of legislation, championed by
Rep. Janelle Bynum (D- Clackamas) and
the legislature’s BIPOC Caucus, is now
before the Oregon Senate.

were Black students were forced to cut off

der to play sports, and similar instances in
employment, a measure passed by the Ore-
gon House last week would prohibit public
schools and employers from discriminat-
ing against hairstyles associated with race.
Lents Shooting Investigation
A joint investigation between the Oregon
Attorney General and Multnomah County
District Attorney will be conducted into
the April 16 police killing of Robert Delga-
do at Lents Park, officials announced last
week. The shooting occurred after a 911
caller reported Delgado was quick drawing
a pistol but was not pointing it at anyone. It
turned out the handgun was a replica.
