From the Principal:
Honored to Share the Journey with You
Demo Class of 2020,
We find ourselves distant from each
other during a defining moment for our
country. We find ourselves navigating
a health crisis of global proportion. We
find ourselves in the midst of a societal
reckoning with the violence of racism
across our nation.
These realities serve as powerful re-
minders of how connected we truly are,
how our individual actions reverberate
throughout not only our community
but also the world; how we both impact
and are impacted.
Over the past week, I was reminded
of the words Martin Luther King Jr. of-
fered in his letter from the Birmingham
Jail and subsequent writings almost 60
years ago:
“In a real sense all life is inter-re-
lated. All men are caught in an ines-
capable network of mutuality, tied in a
single garment of destiny. Whatever af-
fects one directly, affects all indirectly.
I can never be what I ought to be until
you are what you ought to be, and you
can never be what you ought to be until
I am what I ought to be. That is the in-
ter-related structure of reality.”
We learn and grow together, and it
is this reciprocity that is central to our
Jefferson community. It has been an
honor to share the journey with you so
closely over the past four years. You
bring authenticity, richness and com-
plexity to our lives daily and you have
changed us.
You are amazing people who are liv-
ing through a marker of time for gener-
ations to come. We will not be the same,
but we will always be here for you.
We love you and are so proud.
