Portland Homeless Family Solutions held an open house over the weekend to introduce the shel- ter to the community, located at 6220 S.E. 92nd Ave. in the Lents Neighborhood. It’s the first shelter in Oregon featuring trau- ma-informed design and architecture, eliminating open cots, for example, for the comforts of home – private sleeping spaces, food, showers, laundry, computers and clothing. Homeless Family Solutions says it relies on a team of over 800 volunteers to help provide sup- portive, compassionate services. According to its website, $5.3 million was raised to make the shelter a reality. Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler was there for the opening ceremony on Monday and praised all the community partners who made it possible. “There’s something unique about this community that drives us together to protect the most vulnerable people in our community, and that is homeless fami- lies who have small children,” Wheeler said.
