The celebration will take at the Charles Jordan Community Center, 9009 N. Foss Ave., from noon to 3 p.m. Jordan, the first black community member elected to the Portland City Council and a former parks commissioner, died in 2014. “My father’s passing left our family and our en- tire city with a tremendous void,” said Dion Jordan, Charles’ son, who will serve as the event emcee. All ages are welcome for an afternoon of free ac- tivities - fitness, games, plantings, arts and crafts, a building tour, health and wellness checks, music, birthday cake and refreshments, and partner activities, information and resources. A community celebration on Saturday will honor the late Charles Jordan, one of Portland’s most influential leaders.
