The West Linn Alliance for Inclusive Community is part- nering with other diversity ad- vocates to bring “Why Aren’t There More Black People in Or- egon: A Hidden History” author and educator Walidah Imarisha for a public forum to speak on black history in Oregon, the his- tory of race, identity, and power in this state and the nation. The free public event will be held on Tuesday, July 23 at 7 p.m. in the Dunn Community Center (Cascade Hall) on the Mary’s Woods retirement com- munity campus in Lake Oswego. Imarisha is the co-editor of two anthologies including Oc- tavia’s Brood: Science Fiction Stories from Social Justice Movements. She spent 6 years with Oregon Humanities’ Con- versation Project as a public scholar facilitating programs across the state about Oregon Black history, alternatives to incarceration, and the history of hip hop.
