Power to The People Tour
The Vanport Mosaic organiza-
tion and the Northeast Coalition of
Neighborhoods will continue its col-
laboration with Kent Ford, founder
of the Portland Black Panthers, for
his Power to the People: Black Pan-
ther Party Legacy Tour of Albina.
After being sold-out during the
Vanport Mosaic Festival this past
Memorial Day Weekend, another
walking tour of black historic sites
in inner north and northeast Port-
land will take place this Saturday,
June 29 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tick-
ets are $10 and a RSVP is recom-
mended by visiting eventbrite.com.
Ford, who started Portland’s
chapter of the empowerment or-
ganization back in the 1960s, will
conduct the tour, sharing his per-
sonal memories of revolutionary
activism and community service,
and inspiring others to continue the
fight for change.
The tour, with some car pool-
ing between sites, will start at the
Northeast Coalition of Neighbor-
hoods, located next door to King
Elementary in northeast Portland
and end at the Matt Dishman Com-
munity Center on Northeast Knott
Street and Williams Avenue.
