matic showcase

ican stars and filmmakers for
Black History Month. Actor Joe
Morton will join the festival for
special screening of his 1984
film ‘The Brother from Another
Planet,’ on Saturday, Feb. 24 at
7 p.m., with Q&A to follow. A

hosts the first annual Black History Unity Gala and

Ave. Event will feature keynote speaker, ESPN co-

OMSI Exhibit on Arctic Thaw -- “Digging into
Permafrost” is a new exhibit at OMSI addressing
the subject of climate change as viewed through
the lens of a thawing Arctic using exciting inter-
active features such as an Alaskan permafrost
tunnel replica, fossil research stations and inter-
active games.
Priced-Out Documentary -- The new fea-
ture-length film by local journalist Cornelius
Swart ‘Priced Out: 15 Years of Gentrification in
Portland, Oregon’ will screen free to the public
on Thursday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. at the Cerimon
House, 5131 N.E. 23rd Ave. The documentary
explores the complexities and contradictions of
gentrification and what neighborhood life means
after the era of ‘the ghetto.’
Voyage to Vietnam -- Portland Children’s Mu-
seum promotes the understanding of Vietnam
culture and showcases the traditions, customs
and values exemplified by the country’s annual
celebration of Tet with Voyage to Vietnam: Cel-
ebrating the Tet Festival. The new exhibit runs
through May 6.
History Hub -- Oregon Historical Society ex-
hibit for young people explores the topic of di-
versity with interactive objects and pictures that
tell the stories of the people of Oregon, past and
present. With puzzles, touch screen activities
and board games, History Hub asks students to
consider questions like “Who is an Oregonian?,”
“How has discrimination and segregation affect-
ed people who live in Oregon?,” and “How can
you make Oregon a great place for everyone?”
Zoo for All -- The Oregon Zoo has launched
“Zoo for All,” a new discount program that pro-
vides $5 admission for low income individuals
and families. Visitors may purchase up to six of
