Labor and civil rights organizer Dolores Huerta and Peter Bratt, the director of ‘Dolores,’ gather for a
screening of the new documentary about her decades of work on behalf of the United Farmworkers
Union. The NW Film Center presents the film on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 29-30 at the Portland Art
Museum.
Struggle Against
Biased Norms
The dynamic speaker Cesar
Chavez first comes to mind when
considering the decades of work of
the United Farmworkers Union in
labor and civil rights organizing.
But from the beginning in the early
1960s, the movement’s co-found-
er, Dolores Huerta, was behind the
scenes with organizing and nego-
tiating skills that played an equal
part in the movement’s success.
Capturing the 86-year-old
Huerta as she reflects on the ac-
complishments and personal cost
of her passionate career, “Do-
lores,” by director Peter Bratt, of-
fers a fitting tribute to a life ded-
icated to social justice who was
unjustly overlooked in history and
sometimes unfairly castigated for
her gender, stinging political cri-
tiques and personal life.
The Northwest Film Center
presents the film on Friday, Sept.
29 at 7 p.m.; and Saturday, Sept.
30 at 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. at Whit-
sell Auditorium in the Portland Art
Museum. Bratt will attend both 7
p.m. shows for an open discussion
after the movie.
Admission is $9 general and $8
for students and seniors.
