VETERAN’S DAY
Special Edition
Operation Got
Your Back
Clothing drive
to support
homeless
veterans
Operation Got Your Back, a
coat, rain gear and warm clothing
drive, will take place on Veter-
ans Day, Friday, Nov. 11, from 8
a.m. to 3 p.m. at Transition Proj-
ects’ main office at the Bud Clark
Commons, 665 N.W. Hoyt St.
Donations will provide criti-
cally needed support for home-
less veterans throughout the
Portland metro area as tem-
peratures begin to drop for the
winter months. The collection
also seeks to fill a void created
by the complete destruction of
a U.S. Department of Defense
warehouse in a fire earlier his
year. That warehouse normally
provides new winter clothing,
sleeping bags, backpacks and
other supplies to homeless veter-
ans across the country.
“Taking care of veterans who
took care of us is the right thing
to do,” said Transition Projects
Executive Director George De-
vendorf. “With winter fast ap-
proaching, we’re asking Port-
landers to step up and help fill
the gap left by the fire. Homeless
veterans and their family mem-
bers will be struggling this win-
ter - but together, we can help.”
Monetary donations are also
welcome online at tprojects.org
and will be used to help home-
less veterans find and success-
fully retain permanent housing.
