New York City rapper Azealia Banks brings her show to Portland’s Hawthorne Theater.
Perfecting Her Rap
Controversial rapper Azealia
Banks comes to southeast Port-
land for a show on Friday, July 8
at 8 p.m. at the Hawthorne The-
ater.
Raised in Harlem, Banks has
steadily been perfecting her craft
and making a name for herself.
She originally got on the radar of
many record labels with her fist
recording “Seventeen.” Classical-
ly trained in the performing arts,
she has “upped” her profile in the
past couple of years with various
public controversies.
Banks uses Twitter as her
weapon, for example she first hit
Bay Area rapper Kreayshawn in
2012 calling her a “dumb b****”
and threatening to sit on her face.
In 2013, she made openly gay ce-
leb gossiper Perez Hilton her tar-
get by firing various homophobic
slurs his way and encouraged him
to commit suicide when he took
the side of fellow female and bi-
sexual rapper Angel Haze. A ra-
cially driven attack on former One
Direction star Zayn Malik and
Disney Channel actress Skai Jack-
son caused Twitter to suspend her
account.
Whether it’s her seasoned
barbs, voice and hooks, Azealia
Banks gives you a reason to pay
attention.
Empowering Women for 100 Years
One of the first allies of the
NAACP in the fight for civil
rights and one of the first groups
to advocate for women and for
marriage equality, YWCA Clark
County will celebrate its centen-
nial year with a free summer re-
union.
A family-friendly event for the
entire community, current and
former staff, volunteers, donors,
supporters and participants are
invited to gather together in cel-
ebration of the lives transformed
through the last 100 years of ser-
vice. The reunion will take place
at Vancouver’s Esther Short Park
on Sunday, July 10, from 1 p.m.
to 3 p.m.
Since 1916, YWCA Clark
County has been on a mission to
empower women through men-
torship, fellowship, education,
and support.
