cess and creating a vehicle for in-
spiring other students.
More than 130 student nom-
inations
from
kindergarten
through 12th grade were submit-
ted and 28 finalists were select-
ed.
The effort was put togeth-
er by the district’s Office of
School-Family Partnerships. The
honored students were photo-
graphed by professional photog-
rapher Marquis Johnson-Bey and
interviewed by retired Portland
Public Schools administrator Dr.
Carolyn Leonard. Their photo-
graphs and inspiring stories will
be shared with students, fami-
lies and community members
throughout Portland, including a
Young, Gifted and Black booklet
and web page.
In addition, the community
is invited to attend the seventh
annual Young Gifted and Black
Tribute at the Blanchard Educa-
tion Service Center, 501 N. Dix-
on St., on Wednesday, April 20
from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
