Rooted in Hip Hop and African Culture
A stunningly luid dance work
rooted in martial arts, hip hop and
African culture comes to Portland
with White Bird’s presentation of
La Compagnie Hervé Koubi.
The group is comprised of 12
male dances from France, Algeria
and Burkina Faso, who perform a
combination of urban street dance
and contemporary movement in
the show “What the Day Owes
to the Night” by French-Algerian
choreographer Hervé Koubi, rec-
ognized as one of Europe’s most
distinctive choreographers.
The Washington Post calls the
group a “Stunning fusion of ac-
robatics, gymnastics, b-boying,
modern dance and ballet.”
Performances are Thursday,
Jan. 28 through Saturday, Jan. 30
at Lincoln Hall on the Portland
