not where he stands in moments of
comfort, but where he stands at times
of challenge and controversy.

The People’s Co-op and
Portland’s Know Your City
are proud to host an im-
portant discussion on food
justice and the civil rights
movement this Martin Lu-
ther King Jr. holiday.
Martin Luther King Jr.
worked with a coalition of
leaders on a broad range of
issues, including a food cri-
sis that impacts low income
communities and people of
color today. Access to af-
fordable, healthy food is
central to our public health
crisis, and this issue is clear-
ly exacerbated by racism
and class discrimination.
On Monday, Jan. 18 the
civic group Know Your City
and People’s Food Co-op
are hosting a community
dialogue with speakers who
organize for food justice and
racial justice in our local
community. Topics include
gentrification, displacement,
culturally responsive food
gardens, and equity in local
food policy.
The event will be held at
the People’s Co-op, 3029
S.E. 21st Ave., with doors
opening at 6 p.m. and the
program runs from 6:30 to
8:15 p.m. There is a $10 sug-
gested donation, with dona-
tions benefiting the work for
Know Your City.
