During an evening rally at Mason Temple, King delivers his final speech, “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop.” The next day, April 4, King was shot and killed while standing on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis. Put to Rest April 9, 1968 -- King is buried in Atlanta. Thousands attend his funeral.
