The holiday lights of Peakcock Lane, between Southeast Belmont and Stark, has been known as Portland’s Christmas Street since 1929.
Portland’s Christmas Street
Each house in this quaint southeast neighbor-
hood has been decorating for Christmas since
1929. On Peacock Lane, between Southeast Bel-
mont and Stark, the houses are adorned with not
only beautiful sparkling lights, but also nativity
scenes, rotating Christmas trees and stunningly
life-like replicas of Santa and Frosty.
A popular Portland tradition, the crowds can
get quite thick. It is wise to park several blocks
away and walk, rather than drive through the
area.
Peacock Lane does not charge an admission fee.
The lights are displayed through Dec. 31 from 6
p.m. to 11 p.m. with pedestrian-only nights sched-
uled from Friday, Dec. 18 through Sunday, Dec.
20. In the event of additional, unplanned closures
by Portland Police due to large crowds, updates
will be posted on peacocklane.org.
