Christmas at Fort Vancouver
Experience the sights and
sounds of the 1840s Victorian-era
winter holiday season at the annu-
al “Christmas at Fort Vancouver”
special event on Saturday, Dec. 12
from 10 a.m. to 3 .pm. at the Fort
Vancouver National Historic Site.
Visitors to the reconstructed
fort at 1001 E. Fifth St. in Van-
couver, will experience caroling
by the Madrigal Singers and en-
joy warm holiday wassail, games,
music, and historical dancing.
The park will provide materi-
als needed for attendees to make
wooden toy tops, wreaths, and
potpourri ornaments. Popular
blacksmithing and black powder
demonstrations will also be held
throughout the holiday event.
“There will be several ongoing
handcraft activities so families
can make their own Victorian-era
holiday treasures to decorate their
homes or to give as gifts,” said
park Superintendent Tracy Fort-
mann.
Admission is $5 for adults and
free for those 15 years and young-
er.
Black Nativity Holiday Classic
A gorgeous holiday classic that
celebrates gospel music and Af-
rican-American history comes to
Portland when PassinArt: A The-
atre Company presents “Black
Nativity,” a soul-stirring play that
fills the theatre with thrilling voic-
es, exciting movement and glori-
ous gospel music.
This powerful retelling of the
Nativity story was written by the
late African American poet and
playwright Langston Hughes,
with local direction by Jerry Fos-
ter and musical direction by Tom-
my Hammond.
“Black Nativity” runs from
Friday, Dec. 11 through Sunday,
Dec. 20, with Friday and Saturday
shows at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday
shows at 3 p.m., at the Greater
St. Stephens Missionary Baptist
Church, 3605 N.E. Mallory Ave.
Admission is $20 in advance, $25
at the door. Group rates for 10 or
more visitors are available at $15
per person on advance purchases.
A special community night per-
formance on Thursday, Dec. 10 is
$12.50 per person.

Write Around Portland Celebrates
A local nonprofit that focuses
on bringing literary and creative
writing workshops to low in-
come communities is excited to
host their 49th anthology of par-
ticipants’ work, “Headed Home,
Looking Back.”
Featuring writing from both
adult and youth participants
from their fall workshops, the
publication will be celebrated
with a public reading at Collins
Hall at First United Methodist
Church, 1838 S.W. Jefferson
St. at the Goose Hollow TriMet

from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
While admission is free, do-
nations of any amount are ac-
cepted and go to support the
work of the organization’s
workshops. The nonprofit will
also be collecting new journals
for writers for their 2016 work-
shops.
