Black Girl in Suburbia -- Port-
land filmmaker Melissa Lowery’s
documentary “Black Girl in Sub-
urbia” tackles issues of race and
identity. In partnership with the
Urban League of Portland, the
YWCA of Greater Portland is
hosting a free public screening of
the film followed by a communi-
ty discussion with the filmmaker
on Wednesday, Nov. 18 at 6 p.m. on the Cascade Campus of Portland

Ain’t Misbehavin’ -- The Tony Award-winning musical Ain’t Mis-
behavin’ – a celebration of Jazz
legend Thomas “Fats” Waller
and the black musicians of the
1920s and 30s – is now playing
at Portland Center Stage with
shows through Sunday, Nov. 29.
The production is a tribute to the
musicians who were part of the
Harlem Renaissance, an era of growing creativity, cultural awareness,

Quilt, Craft and Sewing Festival -- The Portland Expo Center will
host the Quilt, Craft and Sewing Festival Thursday, Friday and Satur-
day, Nov. 19-21. The event features creative arts vendors who show the

Kids Explore the Science of Sound -- Children can explore the sci-
ence of sound at “Blue Man Group
Making Waves,’’ a national touring
exhibit now showing through Jan.
10 at Portland’s Children’s Museum.
The 3,000 square foot exhibit takes
the whole family through a multi sen-
sory exploration of sound that pro-
vides an opportunity to play together
while discovering the fun of music.

community.

purchase $5 tickets to classical musical performances in Portland as
part of a unique program called Music for All. Participating organi-

let Theater, Chamber Music Northwest, Portland Youth Philharmon-
ic, Portland Baroque Orchestra, Friends of Chamber Music, Portland
Chamber Orchestra, Portland Piano International, Portland Symphonic
