Jazzy Halloween
at Jimmy Mak’s
Portland’s beloved jazz ensem-
ble, the Norman Sylvester Band,
and special guests Lenanne Syl-
vester-Miller and Sarah Billings,
will host a Halloween concert and
costume party this Saturday.
“Vintage stars and famous
icons” is the theme for the Hal-
loween night fun at Jimmy Mak’s
Lounge, 221, N.W. 10th Ave., but
all costumes are welcome and en-
couraged. You’ll have the chance
to have your costume featured
on the Facebook event page the
next day if you come with some-
thing memorable.
Tickets are $12 with dinner
seating reservations or non-re-
served tickets can be purchased at
the door for $10, with doors open-
ing at 5 p.m. The show starts at
8 p.m. and goes through midnight

Organ Society and northeast Port-
land’s Hollywood Theatre are
bringing back the 1925 silent pic-
ture horror classic, “The Phantom
of the Opera” this Halloween.
Causing murder and mayhem
in an attempt to make the woman
he loves a star, a deformed man
becomes the “Phantom of the Op-
era.” This original motion picture,
based on the 1910 novel, stars Lon
Chaney and is hailed as one of cin-
ema’s horror classics.
The Saturday 2 p.m. matinee
will feature a live Unit Orchestra
accompaniment with a special
score created by Martin Ellis,
playing the Beverly Ruth Nelson
memorial organ.
Tickets are $10. Be sure to ar-
rive early to enjoy the splendor
and comfortable seating of the
historic venue, along with con-
cessions and fresh pizza from the
theatre’s “pie hole.”
