Human Rights Film Series
The Northwest Film Center pres-
ents the documentary (T)error, a
film about the government’s broad-
er counterterrorism campaign and
part of a series of films on human
rights, on Sunday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m.
at the Whitsell Auditorium at the
Portland Art Museum, downtown.
(T)error follows the journey
of Saeed “Shariff” Torres,’ a
63-year-old former Black Panther
turned counterterrorism informant
for the FBI. The film offers a face-
to-face exploration of the issues
of domestic surveillance, racial
profiling, entrapment, freedom of
speech, and freedom of religious
expression.
The film is directed by Lyric R.
Cabral, a black New York-based
filmmaker and photojournalist
who documents stories seldom
seen in mainstream media.
Taut, stark, and controversial,
it illuminates the fragile relation-
ships between individuals and the
state in modern America and asks,

‘Ignite’ for Basic Rights Oregon
Join over 1,000 LGBTQ Ore-
gonians, elected officials, and al-
lies to celebrate a year’s worth of
victories in ending discrimination
based on sexual orientation and
gender identity with Basic Rights
Oregon this weekend.
The organization’s fall gala
“Ignite” will be held Friday,
Oct. 30 at the Portland Art Mu-
seum. A costumed extravagan-
za with a Halloween theme, this
“don’t miss” event is one of the
non-profit’s largest annual fund-
raisers.
Guests will be treated to excit-
ing entertainment, special guest
speakers, and a compelling live
auction. Get ready for a spectac-
ular show with DJ Gregarious, an
open bar, free food, and costume
contest with celebrity judges.
A special VIP dinner with re-
served seating will start at 5:30
p.m. and feature a silent auction,
where dinner guests will have a
chance to bid on packages like a
meal made by a top chef, a week
on the Oregon coast, a Palm
Springs retreat, or a Paris adven-
ture. The main event begins at
