Ancestors Beckon -- Milagro, the Pacific
Northwest’s premier Latino arts and culture
organization, continues its Day of the Dead
celebrations with an original production, La
Muerte Baila, blending traditional dance, song

Scary Movie Improv -- Within the boundaries of the horror and sci-
fi films of the 1940s and 50s, think Wolf Man, Mole People, and the
Mummy’s Curse, actors will revisit the genre with improvised theater
that promises lots of entertainment and laughs. Shows Friday, Oct. 30
at 7:30 p.m.; and Saturday, Oct. 31 at 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.; at the
Brody Theater, 16 N.W. Broadway.
Family Fall Festival -- Warner Pacific College at Southeast 68th and
Division, invites the whole family to a free Star Wars-themed Fall
Festival, Thursday, Oct. 29 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Come wear-
ing your favorite costume. There will be face painting, a photo booth,
treats, games, a haunted house, a concert and costume contest.
Real Sister Author Visits -- You’re invited to hear
Dr. Jervette Ward, the author of “Real Sister, Ste-
reotypes, Respectability and Black Women in Real-
ity TV,” a book that addresses the links between the
depictions of black women historically and today.
She will address a public forum at Portland Com-
munity College’s Cascade Campus in north Port-
land, on Friday, Nov. 6 at 6 p.m. in the Moriarty
Arts and Humanities Building auditorium.
Norman Sylvester -- Boogie Cat Norman Sylvester and his band per-
form Saturday, Oct. 31 at Jimmy Mak’s; Saturday, Nov. 7 at the Gemini
in Lake Oswego; Friday, Nov. 13 at the Half Penny in Salem; and Sat-
urday, Nov. 14 at the Spare Room.
Hit Show ‘Cuba Libre’ -- The hit Broadway-scale musical Cuba
Libre has extend-
ed its world pre-
miere production
through Nov. 15.
The play centers on
a Cuban musician
who pursues his
artistic dreams as
he makes a new life for himself as an American. The show is one of
the most ambitious projects to have ever been produced by the Artists

Not-So-Scary Halloween -- The Portland Children’s Museum at Wash-
ington Park across from the Oregon Zoo, hosts a Not-So-Scary Hallow-
een party on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Activities will in-
clude a pumpkin scavenger hunt, clay glazing, masking tape mummies,

Portland’s Saturday Market -- Portland Saturday Market in Old
Town brings some of Oregon’s best handmade products, good eats and
live entertainment from street musicians and other artists. Located next
to the Willamette River at 2 S.W. Naito Parkway, Saturday Market is
also open every Sunday through Christmas Eve.
Music Millennium Free Shows -- The Music Millennium, 3158 E.
Burnside, hosts in-house live performances. Enjoy free music and the

Fourth Sunday Jam Night -- A friends and family variety comedy
show in a Saturday Night Live format with local recording and per-
forming artists, bands, dance crews, poets, and drama groups, takes
place each fourth Sunday of the month at 7 p.m. at Celebration Taber-
nacle, 8131 N. Denver Ave. The free event is open to the community.
Discount Tickets -- Local low-income families and individuals can
purchase $5 tickets to classical musical performances in Portland as
part of a unique program called Music for All. Participating organi-
zations include the Oregon Symphony, Portland Opera, Oregon Bal-
let Theater, Chamber Music Northwest, Portland Youth Philharmon-
ic, Portland Baroque Orchestra, Friends of Chamber Music, Portland
Chamber Orchestra, Portland Piano International, Portland Symphonic
Choir, Cappella Romana and Portland Vocal Consort.
