Special Screening of Black Panthers Film -- The Hollywood Theatre
in northeast Portland will host an advance screening of a new docu-
mentary “The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution” and a post-
film panel of local civil rights activists as a fundraiser for the NAACP
Portland chapter. The special event will take place on Thursday, Oct.
8 at 7 p.m., the day before the theater begins its regular run of the new
documentary.
Free to Breathe Run -- You’re invited to join the fight against lung
cancer by participating in the Portland Free to Breathe 5K and 1 mile
walk on Saturday , Oct. 10 at 9:30 a.m. at Oaks Park in southeast Port-
land. All proceeds will support lung cancer research and advocacy. To

Hip-hop’s Golden Age -- ‘How We Got On,’ a play about three teens
who live their beats, rhymes and dreams of stardom in Hip Hop’s
golden age, presented by Portland Playhouse, a local theater group
that serves a diverse audience at 602 N.E. Prescott St., is now playing

Norman Sylvester -- Boogie Cat Norman Sylvester and his band per-
form Friday, Oct. 9 at the Rogue Pub in North Plains; Friday, Oct. 16 at
the Blue Diamond; Sunday, Oct. 18 at the Second Season concert series
at Estacada Junior High School; and Saturday, Oct. 31 at Jimmy Mak’s.
Portland’s Saturday Market -- Portland Saturday Market in Old
Town brings some of Oregon’s best handmade products, good eats and
live entertainment from street musicians and other artists. Located next
to the Willamette River at 2 S.W. Naito Parkway, Saturday Market is
also open every Sunday through Christmas Eve.
Oregon Music Hall of Fame -- Former Paul Revere and the Raiders
members will play at the annual Oregon Music Hall of Fame Induction
Ceremony and Concert to be held at the Aladdin Theater in southeast
Portland on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. The event will honor nine Or-
egonians who significantly influenced the world of music from here in
Oregon. Proceeds will benefit music education in the state.
Cole Porter’s Anything Goes -- An age-old boy-meets-girl story
comes to Lake Oswego’s Lakewood Center for the Arts with “Anything
Goes,” featuring Cole Porter’s magical songs. Now playing through

Fourth Sunday Jam Night -- A friends and family variety comedy
show in a Saturday Night Live format with local recording and per-
forming artists, bands, dance crews, poets, and drama groups, takes
place each fourth Sunday of the month at 7 p.m. at Celebration Taber-
nacle, 8131 N. Denver Ave. The free event is open to the community.
Discount Tickets -- Local low-income families and individuals can
purchase $5 tickets to classical musical performances in Portland as
part of a unique program called Music for All. Participating organi-
zations include the Oregon Symphony, Portland Opera, Oregon Bal-
let Theater, Chamber Music Northwest, Portland Youth Philharmon-
ic, Portland Baroque Orchestra, Friends of Chamber Music, Portland
Chamber Orchestra, Portland Piano International, Portland Symphonic
Choir, Cappella Romana and Portland Vocal Consort.
