‘Beast Coast’
Rappers
The Underachievers, a Brooklyn, N.Y. duo
that’s part of the “Beast Coast” hip hop
movement with Joe Bada$$, Flatbush
Zombies, Pro-era and others, play the
Roseland Theater, downtown on Tuesday,
Oct. 6. Their new album is Evermore
- The Art of Duality just came out and
their most recent video has already has
cracked half a million on YouTube.
Les Femmes Social
Group Reaches Out
Les Femmes, a Portland or-
ganization founded in 1951
with the goal of establishing
a program to encourage social
development of young African
American women, will host
their annual open house for the
community on Sunday, Oct.
11, 2015 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
at the Legacy Emanuel Hospi-
tal Lorenzen Center, 2801 N.
Gantenbein Ave.
This is a free informational
session for young girls in the
6th through 12th grades and
their parents and an opportunity
to hear about the organization’s
current program offerings for
youth and its longstanding his-
tory in the Portland community.
Les Femmes introduced the
first Debutante Ball in Port-
land, awarded scholarships and
in 1979 included young men in
their activities, as “Cavaliers.”
The oranization is also seek-
ing committee volunteers and
sponsorships to assist in the
development of young wom-
