Celebrating Pride
It’s Pride Week and Portland Black Pride has
joined the LGBT festivities with a week of events
for families and individuals of all ages.
Sponsored this year by the PFLAG Portland
Black Chapter, Black Pride promotes the health
and well-being of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and
transgender community members, along with
their friends and family. The festivities also work
to offer support, education, and advocacy for gay
rights.
The Black Pride Kick-off Party takes place
Wednesday, June 17 at the Local Lounge, 3536
N.E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. from 8 p.m. to 2
a.m. The next night, Thursday at the same location,
the annual Blackout Party will take over the Local
Lounge, with a Black Power Hour celebration tak-
ing place from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. to include drink and
food specials, door prizes and more.
An “Ol’ Skool” card party at the Local Lounge
begins right afterwards at 8 p.m. and runs until 10

drink specials and feature the latest hip hop tunes.
A Paint it Black Party will be hosted at Oaks Park
as a family fun day and will run Friday, June 19,
from 4 p.m to 10 p.m. All-ride passes will be avail-
able for $5.

Forum and Community Fair on Saturday, June 20
